Intent

At Halsford Park Primary School, our Music curriculum nurtures the development of the whole child through carefully sequenced learning that builds substantive and disciplinary musical knowledge over time.

Our ultimate goal is for every learner to recognise themselves as musical, developing a lifelong love and appreciation of music while growing into a successful, confident individual who soars to success and makes a positive contribution to our school community and wider society—both now and in the future.

Guided by our Core Values of Responsibility, Respect, Courage and Compassion, we provide an inclusive music curriculum where every child feels represented, supported and valued as a musician. Through exposure to a rich diversity of musical styles, genres, traditions and cultures from across the world, pupils develop respect for music from all communities and an understanding of its historical and cultural significance.

We strive to provide an irresistible Music curriculum that fully encompasses the National Curriculum and is delivered in a way that inspires creativity, curiosity and confidence. Through high-quality musical experiences, pupils develop as confident performers, composers and listeners. They build their musical understanding through singing, playing tuned and untuned instruments, improvising, composing, listening, appraising and learning how music can be recorded and communicated through notation.

Our carefully planned learning sequences enable pupils to develop musical knowledge and skills progressively, encouraging them to explore, create and express themselves with increasing confidence. Alongside musical development, the curriculum nurtures transferable life skills including teamwork, leadership, creative thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, presentation and performance, supporting pupils to become resilient, independent learners who are prepared for their future learning and life beyond primary school.
