    Vision statement

At Halsford Park, we believe that Geography should inspire learners with a curiosity and fascination about the local environment and wider world that will remain with them throughout their lives. Through enquiry based learning, we offer opportunities for learners to explore the environment around them in our school grounds and surrounding areas, to develop their understanding of the human and physical world in which they live and their place within it. Throughout our teaching, emphasis is placed on providing learners the opportunity to ask geographical questions and reflect on what they have learned to deepen their interest and understanding about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with an understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.  Geography is taught through the connected curriculum, ensuring the knowledge and skills are built on term on term and year on year.

From The National Curriculum in England – framework document 2013 Purpose of study

“A high-quality geography education should inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Teaching should equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. As pupils progress, their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments. Geographical knowledge, understanding and skills provide the frameworks and approaches that explain how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time.”
