    Vision statement

At Halsford Park, we believe that History gives children the opportunity to ask questions and explore how Britain has evolved through influences of the wider world.   We follow the Edison connected curriculum to organise and plan our curriculum to ensure that children learn knowledge and skills progressively, term on term and year on year as they move through the school.  Developing a secure concept of chronology ensures learners have a clear understanding of historical events and these are explore through Drama and role play as well as high quality texts to bring events such as the Great Fire of London and World War 1 to life.  History is taught through our connected curriculum and linked to the wider learning experiences, ensuing an immersive experience.

From The National Curriculum in England – framework document 2013 Purpose of study

“A high-quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It should inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. Teaching should equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.”
