Religion and worldviews

Intent

At Halsford Park Primary School, our Religion and worldviews (R&W) curriculum, supported by Kapow Primary and aligned with the West Sussex Agreed Syllabus, inspires pupils to become curious, reflective and open-minded learners. Through the study of a range of religions, beliefs and worldviews, pupils develop the confidence to ask meaningful questions, explore different perspectives and reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences.

Our carefully sequenced curriculum builds both substantive and disciplinary knowledge over time, enabling pupils to deepen their understanding of how religion and worldviews shape individuals, communities and cultures locally, nationally and globally. Pupils learn to appreciate diversity, challenge stereotypes and engage respectfully with views that may differ from their own.

Guided by our Core Values of Responsibility, Respect, Courage and Compassion, we provide an inclusive and ambitious curriculum that promotes pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Through rich discussion, enquiry and reflection, pupils develop critical thinking skills, empathy and respect for others, preparing them to contribute positively to an increasingly diverse society.

Our aim is for every child to leave Halsford Park as a knowledgeable, thoughtful and respectful individual who understands the significance of religion and worldviews in shaping people’s lives and communities, and who is equipped to make a positive contribution to society.
