Intent

At Halsford Park Primary School, our Science curriculum nurtures the development of the whole child through carefully sequenced learning that builds substantive and disciplinary knowledge over time. Guided by our Core Values of Responsibility, Respect, Courage and Compassion, we provide an inclusive, ambitious curriculum that inspires all pupils to become curious, inquisitive and analytical thinkers who think like scientists.

Through engaging, hands-on learning, pupils develop the confidence to ask questions, make observations, carry out investigations, record and analyse data, and communicate their findings using scientific vocabulary.

Our curriculum helps children understand how science shapes everyday life and drives progress in society, empowering them to make informed, responsible decisions and contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.

By delivering an irresistible curriculum that fully encompasses the National Curriculum, we challenge pupils, spark their imagination and foster resilience, independence and curiosity. Supported by high-quality teaching, every child is encouraged to achieve their full potential, growing into a successful, confident individual who soars to success and makes a positive contribution both now and in the future.

“A high-quality science education provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all pupils should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils should be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. They should be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.”
